Welcome to the Wireless Association of South Hills Club Website....

Everyone is welcome!!! Activities to include Annual Field Day event, Annual PA QSO Party, Annual 2 Meter Contest, Club Picnics, Annual Club Ham Fest, ARRL/VEC exams, special events, local ARES/RACES support, VHF/UHF repeaters and more.

Amateur radio, is a noncommercial, licensed system of communication, and is as old as the medium of radio itself. Ham radio is a hobby to most participants, but hams are best known for the emergency communications they provide during disasters. Hams are licensed by their government to communicate both domestically and internationally on a wide variety of radio bands.

Are you interested in making new friends wherever you go? Would you like to talk without having to worry about roaming, overage, or other cell-phone charges? Would you like the security to know that you can call out for help no matter where you are, or what disaster has happened? Then ham radio might just be for you. Click HERE to find out more information on how to get started. Have you been studying for your license? Come to our next test session at the Peters Township Library. Click HERE for more information.

Please take the time to explore this site, and the many activities of the Wireless Association of South Hills. Email webmaster@n3sh.org with any suggestions, good or bad, content to add (especially upcoming events), photos and what ever you like

Field Day 2010

The Field Day Committee met at the Sanford's Tuesday evening, June 1 to begin laying plans for this year's effort. In case you missed it, WASH is going back to the Observatory Hill at Mingo Park and will have a few members of the Astronomy Club there to open the observatory on

Saturday. We are planning to have similar accomodations as last year

with a tent each for CW operators, phone operators and for food and dining. Our plan for now assumimg we have enough operators is to operate 4A in addition to 6 and 2-meters as well as satellites. We hope to also have a digital station (PSK31) operating as well. Dave, N3DFK has again volunteered to set up a wireless network using N3FJP software for logging and Frank, N3FB will set up power circuits using Jim, WB4GCS' 7500-watt generator. We are planning to have a picnic dinner Saturday around 5:00 PM where we hope to have all members and their families on hand for fun and fellowship. Food will be handled the same with the club providing hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, drinks and condiments but we need members to bring potluck items like salads, snack items, vegetable dishes and desserts (especially desserts).

A few of us are planning to begin setting up on Friday, June 28. We have three tents, antennas and the tower trailer to set up so if you are available please let us know. Please do the committee a favor and let us know early if you plan to attend Field Day, when you will attend and what pot luck dish you can bring. It will help to know how many members so that we plan food purchases accordingly as well as how many operating stations to assemble. Field Day is just around the corner; June 29 & 30 so begin thinking about what you will do and let us know by emailing the reflector or Larry Comden at k3vx@arrl.net .

Thanks,

Field Day Committee

Larry, K3VX

Frank, N3FB

Jim, WB4GCS

Let me tell you about A.R.F. by Todd - W8LEV

ARF is a mobile Amateur Radio operator's dream! Have you ever wanted to know what repeaters are nearby when you travel?  ARF can tell you!
It's an electronic kit that contains the entire U.S. repeater database for the 2m, 70cm, 6m, 10m, 33cm, 23cm & 1.25m bands.  Using GPS technology, it can locate up to 16 of the nearest of any combination of the above and can display them on its 4x20 LCD display.  In addition, it can program your radio so that you can immediately use any repeater it found!
ARF should be available some time in June, so please check back often to see it's progress!
