Public Service

Key Benefits

Public Service provides our reason to have frequencies allocated
Public Service allows us to "give back" some of what we get
Public Service is helping others who need it.

Capabilities

WASH supports the Amateur Radio Service goal of providing quality pubic service, typically in the form of communications support to other public service and charitable organizations. Although from time to time we will coordinate our activities with the ARES and RACES Emergency Service organizations, it is our primary goal to service support requests with volunteers from within the membership of the WASH organization. All members are welcome and encouraged to support our public service activities.

Past Events

09/04/2006 - Members of WACOM and WASH provided radio communications and coordination assistance to the American Heart Association Annual Labor Day 5K Classic in Washington, PA.

Two races took place, a walking race and running race that started 15 minutes apart.  The official time for both races was kept at the finish line and was linked with the starting line through amateur radio.

The K3PSP repeater on 146.79 MHz was used for the event.  Almost 300 runners and walkers participated in the event.

Michael, KB3NVL and Anthony, KB3NVM served in their very first public service event.

Here they are posted at our location at ShopN'Save, overlooking Jefferson Ave.
